Music

Aims

Our aim is to prepare students at BBA Bromley with the tools and skills that they need to work as professional musicians. Students have been given all of the facilities required to make this happen and we are very excited about teaching them how best to use them! By being taught the theoretical principles and combining this with understanding music technology, students will be able to participate in any form of music making.

Our aim in the music department is to create the ‘leaders of tomorrow’, all of whom will be equipped with the skills that are appropriate to shine in the music world.

KS3

Year 9 students will be working on musical topics that tie in with the National Curriculum’s values. These include Exploring Sound (Garageband), Reggae, Hooks and Riffs, Theme and Variation and Music and Media.

Students in year 9 will also be completing the NCFE Certificate in Music Technology. This course introduces them to the roles in the music industry, as well as understandning how to set up, operate and create music using audio and MIDI sequencing software.

Examinations

Students in Key Stage 4 will be working on the BTEC Music Technology courses to create an array of musical projects and products. The focus is very much on maintaining a ‘student-led’ approach so that they can show evidence of leading and instigating tasks themselves in order to gain a ‘Merit’ or ‘Distinction’ grade.

Topics learnt will be:

The Music Industry, Managing a Music Product, Music Composition, Music Recording, Music and Production Analysis, Music Sequencing and Producing a Music Recording

KS5

Students will be exploring the details that entail understanding, planning and evaluating what makes a successful music event. There are many intricate details surrounding the delivery of a music event that will be researched and presented to students and staff alike. This unit helps students to understand what professionals who work in this area do.

Other units studied will be Music and Society and a Special Music Subject. The latter allows students to identify a topic which they feel is close to their heart and then explore it in depth.
