At Bromley Trust Academy Midfield, places are thoughtfully commissioned by the Local Authority. Pupils join us through a collaborative Gateway process that ensures each placement is considered with care. Once we determine BTA is the best and most appropriate option, we warmly invite parents and carers for a guided tour of the school. This is followed by a ratification of the placement at the Gateway panel, and then a pupil visit with their parents or carers is arranged.  In most cases, we will arrange a second pupil visit to support children to transition to BTA with confidence.  This second visit will ensure that the child gets to spend time in their classroom, meet their new teacher and friends, have the chance to explore the new timetable and feel confident about all the smaller details that we know children can often worry about!

Most pupils placed with us are undergoing an EHCP assessment, and all pupils referred through the Gateway process remain dual registered with their home schools.  This means that the home school will remain involved and jointly responsible with BTA for the child's education and wellbeing and we will collaborate to ensure the best possible support and outcomes for the pupil. The only time that a pupil will become single registered with BTA will be in the event of a permanent exclusion.

Once an appropriate onward destination is identified for a pupil, BTA will work closely with the new school to ensure the transition is as successful and well-supported as possible.  This process includes planning for several cross-site visits of staff and pupil, robust teaching and learning, assessment and safeguarding handovers and bespoke timetabling.

At Bromley Trust Academy, we pride ourselves on placing each pupil at the centre of everything we do. Every child arrives with their own story, strengths and aspirations, and we are committed to understanding their individual needs so that they can thrive. Our staff work tirelessly to remove barriers, nurture confidence and celebrate progress, ensuring that every pupil is equipped with the skills, support and belief they need to succeed—both during their time with us and in the next stage of their educational journey.
